Understanding Cognac: A Timeless Classic

Cognac is a type of brandy made from grapes grown in the Cognac region of western France. It is distilled twice in copper pot stills and aged in oak.

The age statement on the bottle tells you a lot. VS is aged at least two years, VSOP at least four, and XO at least ten.

Younger cognacs work well in cocktails, while older expressions are made for sipping slowly.
